Meet Arachne

In Ovid's Metamorphoses, Arachne loved two things: weaving threads, and running her mouth. She boasted that she could weave a tapestry more beautiful than even Minerva could. The goddess of the loom accepted the challenge and the two figures took to a battle of tapestries.Minerva's scene depicted gods torturing mortals, while Arachne's portrayed gods abusing their powers. Not to mention, the quality of her piece outshone Minerva's. The goddess saw red, and whacked Arachne in the skull three times with her weaving shuttle. We believe that art should be unafraid to challenge authority, no matter the consequences. At a time where the marginalised are facing persecution and liberties for minorities are being rolled back, we take inspiration from this ancient character to use art as a tool to explore difficult questions, interrogate the status quo, and platform the voices of the outspoken. Our wonderful logo was designed by Alfred Russo - @altries
